Getting married at Notre Dame requires meeting specific eligibility criteria. To be married in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Lady Chapel, or Log Chapel, either the bride or groom must be Catholic AND meet one of these criteria:
- Current Notre Dame student
- Notre Dame alumnus/alumna
- Active member of Sacred Heart Parish for at least two years before scheduling a wedding date
- Current full-time faculty or staff member who has been employed at the University for a minimum of five years

Basilica weddings open on a two-year rolling calendar with all reservations made online through the official website. In addition, no walk-ins are accepted and most importantly, you may only submit one form per couple, and dates are not guaranteed until your complete reservation is processed.
Furthermore, the couple must also select the priest or deacon who will preside at their wedding – typically someone they know and trust who serves as a representative of the Church. And any priest in good standing, approved and delegated by the Basilica Rector, may preside.

Sesquicentennial Pergola near the engineering building provides beautiful architectural framing with campus backdrops. This is one that I often call “The Greenery Arch”. It is stunning in the summer months and even better in May when the wisteria is in bloom.
