Matt had decided to live in Chicago for a summer for work since he liked to move around and could work remotely. While he was living there, he and Angela, a Chicago native, met online. They hit it off and decided to meet for their first date at Formento’s, an Italian restaurant in the West Loop. They both had instant sparks.
Both coming from strong Catholic backgrounds – Angela’s family from the Chicago suburbs and Matt’s family from Nebraska – they found common ground in their faith. As their relationship grew, they began attending Mass together at St. John Cantius in Chicago, where Matt would eventually propose.

We started Angela and Matt’s engagement session at the Chicago Cultural Center, and it was absolutely perfect for their story. We captured everything from intimate moments on the ornate staircase railings to playful shots of them walking through the grand halls. The natural light streaming through the stained glass windows added the most beautiful, warm glow that made Angela’s dress and their joy absolutely radiate.
Chicago Engagement Photos at Formento’s
After our time at the Chicago Cultural Center, we headed to Formento’s for the second part of Angela and Matt’s engagement session. This location held special meaning as their first date spot, making it the perfect place to capture their connection as an engaged couple.
Angela changed into a sleek white dress while Matt wore a navy suit jacket over his dress shirt – classic, timeless choices that photographed beautifully against Formento’s sophisticated Italian restaurant atmosphere. The rich leather banquettes, exposed brick walls, and that gorgeous ornate tin ceiling created the most romantic, intimate setting. We captured both color and black and white images at Formento’s, showcasing the warm, inviting atmosphere where their love story began.
