Audrey and James’ story began seven years before their wedding day on a dusty path at a music festival in Illinois. They had grown up experiencing different parts of the Midwest, never knowing their paths would eventually cross at Summer Camp Music Festival. James offered to help Audrey carry her things, and after spending that first weekend together, the two quickly realized they had found something incredibly special.
Seven years later, they gathered with their family and friends for a September Morris Estate Wedding in Niles, Michigan. Their day was romantic and garden-inspired, filled with soft pink florals, lush greenery and thoughtful details throughout the estate. From their ceremony inside the Morris Estate Chapel to their tented reception beneath the trees, the entire celebration felt elegant while still being completely joyful and true to Audrey and James.
A Romantic September Wedding at Morris Estate
Audrey and James chose Morris Estate in Niles, Michigan for their September wedding day. The wooded property created such a beautiful setting for their romantic garden-inspired celebration, with everything from their ceremony to their reception taking place right on the estate.
Audrey wore a classic satin gown designed by Monte Durham, paired with pearl details and a soft, timeless bridal look. Their florals brought in shades of blush pink, dusty rose, ivory and soft green, which worked beautifully against the greenery surrounding Morris Estate.
Wedding Ceremony at the Morris Estate Chapel
Seven years after meeting in a field at a music festival, Audrey and James met again in a very different setting to become husband and wife.
Their ceremony took place inside the Morris Estate Chapel, an intimate white chapel tucked into the wooded property. Surrounded by their family and friends, Audrey and James exchanged vows and officially began the next part of the story they had started together years before.
After the ceremony, we were able to take advantage of the September afternoon for portraits around the estate before everyone gathered for the evening reception.
Wedding Portraits Around Morris Estate
One of my favorite parts of Audrey and James’ wedding portraits involved their incredible red vintage Mustang. Against all of the greenery surrounding Morris Estate, the bright red car added such a fun pop of color to their photographs.
More importantly, this part of the day felt completely like the two of them. James kissed Audrey’s hand as she sat inside the car, the two laughed together through the open window, and we captured so many of the little interactions in between. Some of my favorite wedding photographs are often the ones that feel a little less posed, and these are such a good example of that.
A Garden-Inspired Tented Reception
The design of Audrey and James’ reception was absolutely beautiful. Cyndi from Celebrated Events absolutely nailed the design and execution. Cherry Road Florals filled the space with lush garden-inspired arrangements in soft pink, ivory and green, while small lamps and candlelight added warmth as evening began to settle over the property.
One of the most beautiful details was a stone fountain covered in flowers and surrounded by overflowing ferns. Behind it, a large bookshelf-inspired installation filled with books, greenery and glowing candles created another focal point beneath the trees. Every part of the design felt romantic and intentional while still fitting naturally into the wooded setting at Morris Estate.
As daylight faded, the tent took on an entirely different feeling. String lights overhead, warm candlelight and the surrounding trees created such a cozy atmosphere for dinner before the celebration moved onto the dance floor.
An Evening of Dancing Under the Tent
Once the dancing started, Audrey and James’ reception became a full celebration. The Jerry Ross Band kept the dance floor full as the newlyweds spent the rest of the night surrounded by the people they love most.
Those final hours also gave us some of my favorite candid photographs from the day. After so many beautiful details and carefully planned moments, I love ending a wedding gallery with images that simply show what it felt like to be there. Audrey and James laughing, dancing, holding onto one another and completely enjoying their first night as husband and wife was the perfect ending to their Morris Estate wedding.
