There are so many locations you can use for your Notre Dame photos. You really benefit from the campus’s incredible variety of iconic and meaningful locations. Additionally, each spot offers unique architectural beauty and symbolic significance that enhances graduation portraits.
The Golden Dome and Main Building
First, the Golden Dome remains the most iconic location for Notre Dame graduation photos. The Main Building steps provide classic collegiate architecture while the dome itself serves as the ultimate Notre Dame backdrop. Plus, you can finally take the walk up the stairs knowing that your degree is secured!
The Grotto
Second, the Grotto provides a peaceful, contemplative setting that holds special meaning for many Notre Dame students. This is a staple for more grad sessions, knowing how many peaceful mornings, afternoons and evenings they have spent praying.
Touchdown Jesus and The Law School
Of course, we can’t the iconic Touchdown Jesus mural at Hesburgh Library creates distinctly Notre Dame graduation photos. This location appeals especially to graduates who want to showcase their Fighting Irish pride in their formal portraits. It is super close to the law school and the greenery arches which is a popular spot for the beautiful archways and lighting.
Graduation Photo Session Details
University of Notre Dame grad photos typically require 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the number of graduates participating. This timeframe allows us to visit multiple campus locations while ensuring everyone feels comfortable and unhurried. And so that we can get plenty of group and individual photos in each location that you want.
What to Expect During Your Session
First, we’ll start at your chosen priority location, typically the Golden Dome or another meaningful spot. The, we’ll move through 3 or so additional locations, capturing variety in your graduation portraits. Sessions include a mix of formal academic regalia photos and casual portraits that showcase your personality. I provide guidance on posing, expressions, and timing to ensure you feel confident and natural throughout the entire session.
Planning Your Notre Dame Graduation Photos
University of Notre Dame grad photos require some advance planning to ensure the best possible experience. So, I recommend booking sessions early, as spots fill up fast and I only take on a limited number of sessions a season. Additionally, early morning or early evening timing offers the most flattering natural lighting for outdoor portraits.
A Note on Graduation Weekend
I personally do not photograph sessions with grads or their families on graduation weekend. I like to have everything wrapped up a few days before. Campus becomes busy, crowds fill up and it is hard to get all the locations you want with several grads and families trying to also take photos.
