Michaela & George | October 25, 2025
Michaela and George’s Notre Dame wedding was everything a classic Catholic celebration should be: elegant, refined, and timeless. From their ceremony at the iconic Basilica of the Sacred Heart to their reception at the stunning Palais Royale, every moment felt like stepping into a Grace Kelly film. This wedding was a royal affair bringing together loved ones from California to D.C. for an unforgettable celebration.
As a South Bend Catholic wedding photographer who has documented countless Notre Dame weddings, I can tell you that this day stands out. The combination of the Basilica’s beauty, the Palais Royale’s grandeur, and Michaela and George’s genuine love created something truly magical.

The Love Story
It would seem that the universe was pushing Michaela and George into each other’s orbit with intention. The two initially met in the elevator of the apartment complex where they both lived while serving in the Marine Corps, and had continuous run-ins over the following week. By that Sunday, they were on their first date!
George proposed on the deck of Michaela’s parents’ home at sunset, just the two of them overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was a total surprise to Michaela, who of course said yes! They celebrated the evening with champagne, happy tears, and the joy of sharing the news with their friends and families.

Getting Ready at Morris Inn
The morning of their Notre Dame wedding began at the historic Morris Inn, where Michaela and her bridesmaids prepared for the day ahead. The team at Beauty & Bliss put together absolutely stunning looks that perfectly complemented Michaela’s Grace Kelly-inspired aesthetic.
When Michaela stepped into her Monique Lhuillier gown, the room fell silent. The dress was a masterpiece… classic, elegant, and timeless. Paired with her Christian Louboutin heels, every detail spoke to Michaela’s refined taste and vision for a sophisticated Catholic wedding.
Meanwhile, George and his groomsmen prepared for the ceremony, ready to see Michaela walk down the aisle of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

A Ceremony at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame is one of the most breathtaking churches in the country, and Michaela and George’s ceremony here was nothing short of magnificent. As guests filled the pews, a sense of reverence and joy filled the sacred space.
When Michaela walked down the aisle, the Basilica’s architecture provided the perfect backdrop for this holy moment. The soaring ceilings, stained glass windows, and sacred atmosphere made their Catholic wedding ceremony deeply meaningful.
This is what I love most about photographing Notre Dame weddings at the Basilica: the combination of architectural beauty and genuine faith creates moments that are both visually stunning and spiritually profound. Michaela and George’s ceremony honored their Catholic faith while celebrating the love that brought them together.

Fall Beauty on Notre Dame Campus
After their Basilica ceremony, we took advantage of the gorgeous October day for portraits around Notre Dame’s campus. The fall colors provided just the right kiss of warmth, creating the perfect backdrop for this elegant couple.
From the Golden Dome to the tree-lined paths, every corner of Notre Dame campus offered another beautiful setting. Michaela’s gown photographed like a dream against the Gothic architecture, and George looked incredibly handsome in his classic tux.
These are the moments I treasure as a South Bend wedding photographer. When the couple is just married, still floating on the joy of their ceremony, and we can capture that genuine happiness in the beautiful spaces they love.

An Elegant Reception at the Palais Royale
If the Basilica of the Sacred Heart provided the sacred beauty for Michaela and George’s Notre Dame wedding, the Palais Royale delivered the royal elegance for their reception. This historic 1920s ballroom is one of South Bend’s most stunning venues. The venue’s 35-foot ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and gold-leaf details create an atmosphere of timeless glamour.
Merry Me Events enhanced the Palais Royale’s already beautiful reception space. The florals, table settings, and overall design perfectly complemented Michaela’s Grace Kelly-inspired vision. Every detail was refined and elegant, from the centerpieces to the lighting.
Navarre Catering provided an incredible meal that had guests raving all night. The combination of delicious food, beautiful surroundings, and genuine celebration made this Notre Dame wedding truly unforgettable.

A Notre Dame Wedding to Remember
As the evening unfolded at the Palais Royale, Michaela and George were surrounded by the people who love them most. David Rothstein Music had the celebration going all night, keeping the guests engaged and delighted.
What struck me most about this Notre Dame wedding was how refined yet joyful everything felt. This wasn’t stuffy or overly formal; it was elegant and sophisticated while still being warm and full of life. Guests danced all night, toasted the newlyweds, and celebrated a love story that began in an elevator and led to this perfect day.
