Newfields Engagement Photos | Sarah & Adam

Sarah and Adam’s Newfields engagement photos could not have had a prettier backdrop. On a warm August evening, we explored the gardens surrounding Lilly House, finding colorful flowers, beautiful architecture, and the most incredible golden light along the way.

Sarah is originally from South Bend, while Adam is from Kentucky, but the two now call Indianapolis home. Choosing Newfields for their engagement session gave us the perfect opportunity to photograph this season of their lives in the city they now share together.

Their session felt relaxed, joyful, and effortlessly classic. From walking through the gardens to laughing together beneath the pergolas and soaking up the last bit of evening light, Newfields was such a beautiful setting for photographs that feel timeless without feeling overly formal.

Engagement Photos at Newfields in Indianapolis

Newfields is one of my favorite locations for engagement photos in Indianapolis because there are so many beautiful settings within one property. The gardens surrounding the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Lilly House feel completely different from one area to the next.

We wandered through garden paths surrounded by flowers and greenery, stopped near the fountains and white pergolas, and used some of the beautiful architectural details around Lilly House. Sarah’s white dress was perfect against all of the greenery and colorful late-summer flowers, and I loved how simple and classic everything felt.

It is one of those locations where you don’t need much else. The gardens and architecture are beautiful without taking attention away from the couple, which is exactly what I want from an engagement session location.

A Golden August Evening at Newfields

As the evening went on, the light just kept getting better.

Some of my favorite photographs from Sarah and Adam’s Newfields engagement session came toward the end of our time together when the sun dropped lower behind the gardens. We found the prettiest pockets of golden light around the paths and bridges, and those photographs ended up being such a beautiful way to finish their session.

More than anything, I loved how relaxed these two were together. We walked, talked, laughed, and explored the gardens without making the evening feel overly posed. Their gallery has a mix of those classic portraits I always want my couples to have alongside plenty of the natural, joyful moments that really feel like them.

From Indianapolis to Their South Bend Wedding

Although Sarah and Adam call Indianapolis home, Sarah is originally from South Bend, and they’ll be heading back to her hometown for their wedding celebration.

They’ll be married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in South Bend before celebrating with their family and friends at The Armory. I already cannot wait to photograph the two of them again, this time as they become husband and wife!

Their Indianapolis engagement photos were such a beautiful beginning to this season, and I’m so excited for everything still to come.
